Each student becomes a cherished member of our institute to be honed into a beauty expert uplifting the lives of each client they contact.
This responsibility is no small thing. We take seriously the education of each person in our school and we impress that on each of our hand-picked instructors.
Our students each have individual goals they strive for while attending Western Beauty Institute. Here are just a few of dreams they share.

“I’m a student at WBI and I’ve always had a fascination for the world of beauty. Coming to this school I realize how much I still have to learn, and I always find myself in the best disposition.
The school offers events and competitions in which, since I was a freshman, I started to participate. I remember that the first event that I assisted with was a Bridal Fair. I also attended the Mother’s Day and Poppy Festival events. In the competitions, I participated in A Day to Remember and SuperCuts. I won first place in the Beauty of the Nile Competition. I also competed in the Las Vegas Hair and Nail Show in which I won third place, and this inspires me and gives me great satisfaction to continue to compete because I enjoy the challenges. I will also in my best times continue as a volunteer in all of the events that the school invites me, and offer my free services to serve the community.”
“Being a hairstylist has been my dream since I can remember. I enrolled at WBI in June 2006 and since then by the grace of God my talents have flourished. I've been involved in many shows and competitions here at WBI.
My most memorable experience was when I was a freshman. I entered my first contest styling my mannequin's hair. That was the first competition I was recognized in when my mannequin's head was chosen and displayed at Harris Gottschalks in the Mall. I was ecstatic! Thereafter every show or competition that was put on by WBI, I entered. I didn't win every time, but at heart I was a winner for the accomplishments I achieved in getting there! My most exciting experience was the Vegas Show in where I placed 3rd in the Male Model Competition! It was phenomenal!
The experiences here at WBI are the start of a dream that will continue here and after. With the help, dedication, passion and love of all the night and day instructors any dream can be fulfilled here at WBI.”
“I am a student at the WBI school. I have always had the dream to work with a team. My big dream is to obtain my license and become a cosmetologist. I love to see the before-and-after of a finished work.
I have participated in various events which included haircuts and hairstyles. With the help of my teachers I achieved some of my dreams. As a Freshman I participated in a Bridal Fair. I then graduated on to a Senior (level) in which I participated in the SuperCuts Style Competition and obtained first place. I then participated in Pechanga Super Sunday and Beauty of the Nile.
I have participated in events that help out the community including the Mother's Day and Poppy Festival events. Competitions to remember include weddings, sweet fifteens, and special occasions. The Las Vegas Hair and Nail Show has helped me realize my dreams. I will continue forward and participate whenever I'm given the opportunity.”
“Since I was a little girl, I played with dolls and combed their hair. I suppose all young girls do that, but I felt like my dolls were people whom I would transform with makeup or a different hairstyle. This feeling has always lingered strongly inside of me.
It wasn't until 1980 that I had the opportunity to attend cosmetology school in Argentina (my country of birth). I was 20 years old and married with a 2-year-old son. Two months after I had started my education I found out I was pregnant, but nevertheless, I continued my education. Seven months later, my husband, age 21, passed away in an accident. This was the worst moment of my life, but I continued to go to school, and I graduated and gave birth to a beautiful little girl.
In 1985, I came to the United States with a lot of aspirations like many other immigrants. I worked wherever I could get a job. It didn't matter what I did - I needed the money to live in this country where everything was so new to me. I was re-married and going on with my life, working and tending to my children when to my surprise I found, a few blocks away from my house, a sign that said “San Fernando Beauty Academy.” I was so excited my eyes were dancing all over the place. When I got home, I told my husband I was going back to school. I called my mother (well, mother-in-law, but I call her mom because she is the mother of my first husband and we have a wonderful relationship) so that she could mail all of my documents and diploma from the school I attended in Argentina. The minute I received all of my paperwork, I marched down to the school with an enormous smile on my face to register. I felt so wonderful because once again I was doing what I loved most. I was involved in everything the school had to offer. I was into my third month when after a doctor's visit I found out I was pregnant with my third child. This time was different though; I had to choose between school and my child, because my pregnancy was difficult and I risked losing my baby if I did not rest properly. I was on strict orders from the doctor to have five months of bed rest. But it was all worth it when I gave birth to a wonderful 8lb., 12oz. baby boy.
Twenty years have passed since that day, and of course, many more events have happened in my life, and one of those was moving to Lancaster in 1994 where I began several jobs and activities. In 2005, my eyes began to dance when I once again saw the sign to San Fernando Beauty Academy, today known as Western Beauty Institute.
Once again, I registered and participated in all of the events and activities the school offers, and enjoyed myself to the fullest! More than 25 years had to pass, but today, I am finally a licensed cosmetologist in the State of California. I am proud to be working as the Event Coordinator for the same Western Beauty Institute that gave me the confidence and ability to show my talent.
Thank you Western Beauty Institute.”
“I started my training at the age of 23. I was a single mom and struggling but that didn't keep me from following my dream. My experience at WBI was exciting and rewarding. I really love the instructors and staff.
Once I received my diploma, I decided to go back to WBI and continue my career by helping others get into the beauty industry. I am now a Financial Aid Director and have been working for the company ever since.”
